Interview with Adam White

Adam is the Principal Landscape Architect for Groundwork London. He is also a CABE Space Enabler, Green Flag Judge, Design Ambassador and Chair of the Groundwork UK Landscape Architects Forum.

At this year’s SALTEX exhibition, Proludic unveiled the international launch of Ludic’ Area. The Duke of Kent witnessed the unveiling of this ground-breaking concept, which has the potential to shape the future of adventure play and introduces a look beyond the notion of the destination park.

 

Designing Inclusivity

When designing any new play area, the subject of inclusivity should always be considered from the beginning of the project.
This week we will be looking at design principle number 5 in the Design for Play Guide which states play areas must be 'accessible to both disabled and non-disabled children'.

This design
principle was used to full advantage in 2007's installation of Withy Grove Park in South Ribble.

Natural Environment Inspires Play

Halliford Park utilised the 1st Design principle of the Design for Play guide brilliantly, when they provided a park that took its direct inspiration from the natural surroundings.
A Playbuilder Play Area for Awsworth!

The existing play area at The Lane in Awsworth was old, and the equipment tired; it generated little enthusiasm in the local children.  Awsworth Parish Council were aware of the need to provide better facilities for their children, and instigated a refurbishment project for the site.

Proludic worked with Taunton Deane Borough Council to create  the first Playbuilder - showcase site. Aileen Shackell - Lead author of the Design for Play guide comments:

“The play space has a pleasant character and 'feel', and illustrates many of the benefits of designing a landscape setting alongside the equipment. “

Addition to the Diabolo range

In January 2009, new combinations, aimed at small children, will be added to the Diabolo range.

Proludic is widening this range with new equipment designed for tiny tots aged 2 years or more, encouraging them to explore activities providing different motor and sensory experiences.
