Holiday parks are placing greater emphasis on outdoor play as families increasingly look for breaks that offer more than comfortable accommodation and attractive surroundings.

Across the leisure sector, well-designed play areas are becoming an important part of the guest experience, helping these parks create memorable moments, support family time and encourage visitors to return year after year. For children, play spaces offer freedom, adventure and imagination. For parents, they provide reassurance that the destination has been designed with the whole family in mind.

The most effective play areas are no longer made up of standard equipment placed on an unused corner of a site. Instead, they are carefully planned attractions that reflect the character of the park and add to its overall identity. Theming plays a central role in this approach, allowing operators to create play environments inspired by their location or brand.

Coastal parks might draw on beach huts, boats and seaside exploration, while countryside destinations may favour woodland trails, climbing structures and nature-led adventure. For touring and camping parks, camper van-inspired play equipment can connect directly with the excitement of holidays on the road, encouraging children to create stories around travel, discovery and family adventures.

This sense of imagination is what helps turn a play area into a lasting memory. When children can climb, explore, pretend and challenge themselves in a setting that feels unique, the experience becomes part of the holiday itself rather than a separate add-on.

For operators, however, play spaces must also deliver practical and commercial value. Holiday parks face periods of heavy seasonal demand, making durability essential. Equipment needs to be robust, safe and capable of coping with frequent use during busy peak weeks, while also remaining low maintenance and visually appealing over time.

Long-term support is equally important. A strong relationship with a playground supplier should continue well beyond installation, with access to inspections, maintenance, spare parts and technical advice helping to keep facilities safe, reliable and ready for guests.

Sustainability is also shaping these investment decisions. Families are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of the businesses they support, and parks are seeking products that combine responsible sourcing with longevity. Durable, repairable equipment can reduce replacement needs and lower whole-life costs, while supporting a more environmentally responsible approach.

Proludic, which has more than 37 years’ experience in outdoor play design, works with UK holiday parks to create bespoke, high-impact play spaces built for heavy seasonal use. Its end-to-end service includes concept design, 3D visuals, manufacturing, installation and aftercare.

As competition in the leisure market grows, exceptional play is becoming much more than an added attraction. For holiday parks, it is an investment in guest satisfaction, family memories and long-term loyalty. Click here to find out more at our Campsites, Hotels & Holiday Leisure Parks page.
