Ashurst Parish Council tasked Proludic with designing and installing an accessible and inclusive outdoor fitness space at John Pears Park. Our aim was to bring the community together and enable parents and carers to exercise while children play in the nearby playground and sports field.

Proludic produced a design that placed a range of static and dynamic outdoor gym equipment with a distinctive arc layout. Our goal with this design was to encourage users to exercise alongside friends and neighbours in a relaxed and sociable setting, strengthening community links and connections.

The new outdoor gym equipment features features an elliptical cross trainer (UBX-203B) and spin bicycle (UBX-289B) to get users’ heart rates up. These two pieces of equipment were used because they are accessible, low-impact items that can be enjoyed as a cardio exercise by users of all ages (14+). We have also included a twist and pendulum unit (UBX-232B) that helps loosen the hips and the base of the spine.

Once warmed up, users can progress to 2 resistance strength units: the chest press (UBX-246B) and squat machines (UBX-217B). This features resistance-creating hydraulic pistons that allow every user to progress at their own pace depending upon the setting. For users who enjoy calisthenics exercises such as chin-ups, Proludic has included two horizontal bars from our metal trim trail range for seniors (JPS19A) that also lend themselves to exercises using resistance bands.

The equipment is neatly situated on a single pad of green rubber mulch, which blends in visually with the natural surroundings and allows users of all abilities to access the equipment in all weathers and complete warm-ups before their session.

Proludic’s Area Manager, Tim Bird, putting community through their paces at training session

Post-installation, the local Area Manager carried out a training session with members of the local community to demonstrate how the equipment worked and help motivate the local community to use the equipment for years to come. The feedback was positive and members of the public that tried the equipment during this session could see that the space would be an asset to the community.
