A new farm-themed toddler play area has been created for Winchcombe Town Council, providing a dedicated, inclusive environment where younger children can play, learn and socialise.
Designed and delivered by Proludic, the project complements the site’s existing facilities while introducing a carefully planned space for children aged from six months to five years. The council appointed Proludic to provide a complete turn-key solution, covering concept development, design, manufacture and installation.

The brief focused on creating a wide variety of play opportunities that support physical, cognitive and social development during the important early years of childhood.
Working closely with the council team, Proludic explored several design concepts before selecting a farm theme that reflects the character of the surrounding area. The result is a cohesive play environment that encourages imaginative storytelling, exploration and shared play, rather than simply presenting children with a collection of individual play items.
The design is anchored by Proludic’s award-winning Baby Diabolo multiplay unit, which forms the centrepiece of the new space. Carefully scaled for younger children, the unit provides accessible climbing, sliding and sensory activities that help children develop confidence, coordination and movement skills.
The wider play area continues the farmyard story through a farmhouse playhouse, a tractor play unit, a three-seat pig springer and a horse springer. Together, these features encourage roleplay, balance, cooperative movement, communication and social interaction.
Bespoke graphics, created using Proludic’s Grafic Games design concept, have also been incorporated across the multiplay unit, springers and playhouse. These interactive visual elements strengthen the farm theme while encouraging creativity, conversation and collaborative play.
Accessibility and inclusion were fundamental throughout the design process. Ground-level activities, inclusive seating and a range of play intensities allow children with different abilities and at different developmental stages to participate meaningfully.
Proludic’s landscape architects also carefully planned the layout around several service hatches located within the site. This ensured that essential maintenance access could be retained without affecting safety, visual appeal or the overall play experience.
The completed play area features 11 play items, accommodates up to 24 users and provides more than 40 distinct play values.
Joe Lofty, Proludic Area Manager, said: Working closely with Winchcombe Town Council allowed us to deliver a welcoming farm-themed environment that supports early development and gives families a dedicated place to enjoy playtime together.
With its recognisable theme, inclusive design and strong emphasis on early years development, the concept is particularly well suited to farm parks and other rural visitor attractions. It provides operators with an engaging play destination that complements a farm-based setting, enhances the family experience and gives toddlers a safe space designed specifically around their needs.
The finished scheme delivers a vibrant and imaginative environment where children can play, learn and socialise, while families benefit from a welcoming new community facility.
