Calne Recreation Ground has been transformed with a bold alternative to the traditional playground: a high-energy ACTI’Ninja activity space designed to encourage movement, confidence and outdoor adventure.

Developed in partnership with Calne Town Council, the project aimed to create a distinctive community destination that would appeal to children, teenagers and families. Early collaboration shaped a contemporary design centred on active play, social interaction and wellbeing, resulting in a visually striking facility that challenges users to climb, swing, balance and push their limits.

Inspired by Ninja Warrior-style obstacles and co-developed with finalist Charles Brunet, ACTI’Ninja promotes strength, agility, balance and endurance for users aged six and above. The course includes Warrior Ramps, Monkey Bars, Unstable Bridges, Suspended Tunnels, Climbing Slopes and Traverse Challenges. A trampoline, Junior Metal Slalom and 6.8-metre Metropolis Tower broaden the play offer and support imaginative activity.

The UK’s largest public ACTI’Ninja course opened in Calne on 5 April with a community celebration featuring medals, refreshments and professional demonstrations. Two-time world freerunning champion Ed Scott and stunt performer Zara Treherne showcased the course before helping children develop their skills.

The result is an exciting, inclusive destination that encourages healthier lifestyles and reimagines public play for a new generation.
