After successfully installing the first play area at Hugglescote Grange 4 years prior, Proludic was once again chosen to deliver environmentally harmonious play. Our project was to design a LEAP (Local Equipped Area for Play) within the next phase of their housing development.

Site: Hugglescote, Coalville LE67 2BT

Client: Harworth Group

Budget: £140,000

Age Range: Toddler, Juniors

Date Opened: April 2022

The Hugglescote Grange community is located on the edge of the village of Hugglescote near Coalville. Built as part of a Harworth Group development, by Redrow Homes, Bellway Homes and Morris Homes, it includes around 2,700 high-quality family homes.

41% of the site is dedicated to green spaces, including National Forest planting and a recently opened Forest school. So Proludic’s challenge was to design a play space that would harmonise with the newly created natural landscape. The design should be attractive to toddlers, juniors and their carers and provide opportunities for inclusive, imaginative, physical and social play.

For this project, we utilised products from our Origin’ Robinia wood range and structures from the Origin’ Major Projects range. With this equipment, we created a robust, environmentally cohesive and natural looking play space which encourages creative and active play; all while introducing more challenging play opportunities for older children.

We’re proud to have been chosen again to create a natural, imaginative play space for Hugglescote Grange, that blends beautifully with the landscape and brings families together outdoors.

Magical, environmentally-inspired play features

Designed to resemble trees and blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings, the main attractions of the play area are two multi-play bird’s nest towers – wooden structures featuring green elements wrapped around the top to emulate a nest. One tower is connected to an interactive play unit, incorporating cylindrical tunnels that children crawl through to reach a slide. The second tower features a thrilling spiral slide that winds gracefully to the ground.

A variety of features to inspire shared play

Installed across the space are features such as the J49105 Lily Pad Wooden Springer, offering shared play opportunities; the J4910 Suspended Rings, to encourage strength and coordination; and the J489 Double Swing, which accommodates different age groups by including both flat and cradle seats. A pixel panel, a spinning bowl and a network of connecting paths further complete the space and ensure inclusivity and accessibility.

Despite engineering challenges presented by the sloping site, Proludic collaborated closely with the landscape architects and Harworth Estates to deliver a play area that not only met but exceeded expectations. Hugglescote Grange is a safe, engaging, and visually harmonious play space that resident families will enjoy for years to come.
