A new £750,000 coastal play park opened at Lower Leas Coastal Park in Folkestone in July 2026, transforming the site into what has been described as the “largest free adventure playground in the South-East”.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council wanted to improve accessibility across all 15 play zones, creating an inclusive destination where users of all abilities could play together. Proludic developed the winning design, combining challenge, accessibility and the park’s unique coastal environment.

The area’s biodiversity is reflected throughout the scheme, with bespoke timber climbing structures, wildlife-inspired features and activity trails encouraging children to explore nature.

At the heart of the playground is an impressive five-tower timber structure, connected by accessible surfacing and designed to provide excitement, challenge and opportunities to play at height. Other highlights include an Arborea unit built around a tree, a shaded Robinia bee unit for younger children and a demanding 60-metre agility trail.

Despite torrential rain and two record heatwaves, the installation was completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.

More than 1,000 visitors attended the opening event, marking the beginning of what the Council hopes will become a flagship play destination for generations to come.

The playground was opened to great fanfare, with an opening event seeing over a thousand visitors walk through the bespoke “Welcome” sign. Guests enjoyed free ice creams courtesy of Proludic, while goodie bags were distributed to younger visitors.
