A vibrant new play space has been created in the heart of Chesham’s Lowndes Park through a remarkable collaboration between community group Love Lowndes, Chesham Town Council and the Friends of Lowndes Park.

The project was driven by a shared ambition to replace the outdated playground with a challenging, inclusive and nature-inspired space where juniors and teenagers could play, explore and connect.

Love Lowndes led a determined four-year fundraising campaign, securing an impressive £220,000 through community events, local sponsorship and donations. This grassroots effort demonstrated the town’s commitment to creating welcoming and inspiring public spaces for future generations.

Following a competitive tender process, Proludic was selected for its innovative design, which embraces the park’s sloping terrain and blends naturally into the surrounding woodland. The design arranges equipment from the Origin’ timber range across distinct zones, offering challenging, sensory and imaginative play experiences.

The playground also celebrates Chesham’s heritage. A stylised river within the surfacing references the town’s historic name, meaning “the river-meadow at the pile of stones”, while an interpretation board introduces this story to young visitors. Volunteer-led additions, including a handmade bug hotel, bring further local character and encourage environmental awareness.

Delivered on time and within budget, the open and unfenced playground reflects the town’s welcoming spirit and connection to nature. Rooted in community, history and play, the space will grow alongside Chesham’s next generation.
