Proludic transformed Kings Meadow Recreation Ground into a modern, inclusive play destination for toddler and junior-aged children. The brief called for a high-quality, accessible space with a strong visual identity, including swinging, bouncing, climbing and sliding activities, secure fencing, seating, extensive safety surfacing and a distinctive poppy-inspired colour palette.
As the Recreation Ground is a registered war memorial site, the design carefully balances vibrant play with respect for its heritage. Red and white poppy details, remembrance-themed colours and a commemorative bench dedicated to Second World War veteran Jim Grant create a meaningful connection to the local community.
At the centre stands a seven-metre-high Kanopé multiplay unit, featuring five platforms, a 4.17-metre corkscrew slide, climbing net, viewing window, kayak slide and fire pole. Across the site, 23 play items provide more than 150 play values and capacity for over 150 users.
Inclusive features include ramped access to a double-width slide, a wheelchair swing, two inclusive trampolines and a flush roundabout. Green wetpour surfacing unifies the scheme, while eight hidden poppies and an educational sign encourage children to learn about remembrance through play. Stowmarket Town Council praised the completed area as one of the best locally and a proud asset for the community.
