Lambeth Council identified a need for a fully inclusive playground at Clapham Common, as existing local play provision did not meet the needs of every child. Its ambition was to create a facility capable of achieving the highest PiPA (Plan Inclusive Play Areas) gold award.

Following a competitive tender, Proludic was appointed to design the 1,400-square-metre playground. The completed scheme features 45 pieces of inclusive equipment arranged across clearly defined play zones, enabling children and families to enjoy the space together. An independent PiPA assessment awarded the site gold status.

The Friends of Clapham Common and local councillors were involved throughout the process, helping ensure the final design reflected community needs. Inspired by a woodland journey, the playground allows children to explore and play at their own pace and ability.

Diabolo and Adventure multiplay units provide varied challenges, with accessible ramps supporting independent play. A sensory path connects the different zones and encourages role play, sensory discovery and learning through interactive boards and panels.

Inclusive swings, colourful, continuous wetpour surfacing and carefully positioned seating enhance accessibility and comfort. Picnic tables around the perimeter provide welcoming spaces for families, parents and carers to relax while remaining close to the play area.
