Proludic’s environmental approach is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: the places where children play should help protect the world they will inherit. Proludic recognises that every decision, from the materials used in construction to the vehicles used on a daily basis, has an impact.
Our environmental approach to designing, manufacturing, and installing play and sports areas prioritises:
- Improving resource efficiency with recycled materials in our products,
- Creating durable, repairable equipment that supports long-term sustainability,
- And reducing carbon throughout the company.
Recycled, Sustainable Approach to Play Equipment
A key part of our environmental approach is to develop equipment using recycled and recyclable materials. Across our product ranges, Proludic actively incorporates recycled materials without compromising strength, safety or design quality. Today, 75% of Proludic products contain recycled raw materials, while 88% of materials used in production are recyclable. This supports a circular approach, helping to reduce waste and lessen demand for new raw materials.
Long-Lasting Materials for Minimal Fuss and Waste
Durability is central to Proludic’s sustainability approach, with equipment designed to withstand years of intensive public use and reduce the need for premature replacement. A 2022 Proludic study found that 90% of our outdoor playgrounds produced over 15 years ago were still fully functional, reflecting the long-term value of robust materials and design. Additionally, we provide other guarantees for up to 2-25 years for our equipment quality, and a lifetime guarantee against structural failure on key components such as steel posts, supporting structures, stainless steel tubes and durable compact or high-density polyethylene panels.
Proludic’s repairability index provides a clear and practical way to assess how easily products can be maintained, repaired, and extended in service life. Each item of equipment has a repairability score, with Proludic’s repairability score averaging 9.12 out of 10. Spare parts are available for 10 years after manufacture as part of the Proludic Promise. This enables clients to replace individual components rather than whole items; for example, replacing individual ropes within climbing structures, which reduces waste and maintenance costs.
Carbon Reduction as Part of Proludic’s Company-Wide Environmental Management
Carbon reduction is at the core of our wider operations. Proludic uses carbon footprint assessments to review activities linked to design, manufacture, transport and business travel. Our world-class manufacturing facility in Vouvray, France, has installed photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy on site. Also, this facility recycles 93% of production waste. The Proludic Group has also held ISO 14001 environmental accreditation since 2006, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to responsible environmental management.
Responsible sourcing is another important element of our approach. Since 2015, Proludic has guaranteed that timber products are manufactured in line with PEFC certification, ensuring that wood comes from sustainably managed forests. Our local supply chain also helps reduce transport emissions, with 94% of suppliers based in Europe and 72% based in France, contributing to a fourfold decrease in transportation emissions.
In the UK, our office and operational base, The Play Hub, is supplied with electricity purchased from a renewable source. Alongside this, Proludic continues to move towards a lower-emission vehicle fleet. We have introduced electric and hybrid cars to reduce fuel consumption and emissions associated with business travel.
“True to our values, we are taking tangible action to maximise the service life of our designs and reduce their environmental impact. We are striving to reduce global warming for future generations.”
Proludic’s Sustainability Mission Statement
Our Holistic Environmental Approach to Sustainability and Responsibility
Our environmental approach also extends to project delivery. 93% of projects are preceded by a preliminary on-site assessment. This helps to ensure the full consideration of local needs, site conditions and efficient delivery methods. During installation, we seek to minimise waste, reuse or recycle materials where practical, and manage packaging responsibly.
Together, these measures demonstrate Proludic’s practical, measurable and ongoing commitment to sustainability. From recycled materials and repairable equipment to renewable energy, local supply chains and cleaner vehicles, we focus our environmental endeavours on reducing impact at every stage. By making responsible choices today, we help create play spaces that are not only inspiring and long-lasting, but also better for the planet.
