La Chaîne de l’Espoir operates in 25 countries to provide access to healthcare for those who need it most.
It works with local health systems, relying on French volunteer doctors, nurses, and technicians who operate and train teams on-site.
It also implements the necessary infrastructure and equipment for surgery while strengthening medical and technical skills. Additionally, it acts upstream through prevention and screening, in partnership with numerous healthcare actors, to provide a coordinated response and ensure a lasting impact on the living conditions of vulnerable people.
Three recent initiatives concretely demonstrate La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s impact in the field.
A new mobile clinic for the slums of Jaipur, India
Since summer 2025, a new mobile clinic has been circulating in the heart of Jaipur’s slums in India. Co-financed by La Chaîne de l’Espoir and the Ross Foundation, this modern, specially equipped vehicle strengthens the medical teams’ capacity to serve the most vulnerable populations.
This second vehicle was essential to organize missions differently and to increase reception and care capacity. While the first truck is entirely dedicated to general healthcare, the second focuses on the health of girls and adolescents, offering awareness sessions, menstrual kit donations, and individual gynecological consultations.

The French Medical Center of Sinjar, Iraq, ready to welcome its first patients
Ten years after the complete destruction of the region’s healthcare infrastructure, La Chaîne de l’Espoir officially handed over the French Medical Center of Sinjar to the Iraqi authorities. Located in an area still marked by the 2014–2015 genocide of the Yazidi community, this hospital represents a crucial step in supporting the gradual return of populations still dispersed in refugee camps.
Built in close cooperation with Iraqi authorities and with the support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs as well as the EU Madad Fund, the facility was designed to meet local realities. La Chaîne de l’Espoir teams created a hospital adapted to Sinjar’s geographic isolation, local resources, and the skills of Iraqi professionals.
The hospital now has 27 beds, 2 operating theaters, emergency, imaging, and laboratory services, as well as units dedicated to maternal and child health. Designed to be scalable, it can eventually reach a capacity of 100 beds.
Despite being carried out in a complex geopolitical context — access restrictions, security tensions, supply chain disruptions — the project was successfully completed. The official handover marks the end of the construction phase but not La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s commitment, which will continue throughout 2026 with maintenance and skills reinforcement for local teams.

Laotian healthcare workers trained in critical emergency care in Thailand
In June 2025, six doctors and nurses from Thakhek hospital participated in training at Chiang Rai hospital in Thailand on the management of life-threatening emergencies. This session was organized by the SAMU of Hauts-de-Seine with the support of the French embassy. On this occasion, La Chaîne de l’Espoir facilitated the travel of the Laotian team and donated three vital signs monitors to two hospitals in Laos.
