Site: Belmont Rd, London SW4 0BZ
Client: Clapham Manor Primary School
Budget: £20,000
Clapham Manor Primary School, nestled on the edge of Clapham Common in Lambeth, has transformed its outdoor space with a brand-new Proludic play area designed to bring children closer to nature while encouraging active, imaginative play. Working closely with the PTA, the school wanted to replace its outdated equipment with an exciting new play solution that would engage as many children as possible at one time and support a wide range of developmental needs. Between the PTA, the school, and Proludic’s design team a bespoke design emerged that maximised play capacity and variety.
It’s been fantastic to see how the new play area at Clapham Manor Primary School has completely revitalised the outdoor space. The natural Robinia structures not only blend beautifully with the surroundings but also inspire children to play, explore and connect with nature every day.
Martin Marfé, Proludic Area Manager
One key practical challenge was managing drainage and surface water in an area with an existing wetpour footprint and drain cover. The solution involved carefully rerouting the drain cover and incorporating it seamlessly into the new layout, ensuring a safe and durable play environment. At the heart of the new playground stands the Origin’ Robinia Multiplay Unit (J4947) – a stunning timber structure offering 29 play functions and accommodating up to 34 children at once. Designed to encourage active, imaginative and cooperative play, it features slides, a tunnel, climbing wall, elevated playhouse, and wobbly walkways – all crafted from sustainable Robinia wood. Complementing the main unit is the Monkey Bars Wooden Trail (J4909) – a horizontal ladder module made from Robinia and stainless steel that challenges balance, strength, and coordination for up to four children at a time
