2014 Regional Conference Speaker Highlight:

The SLCC are pleased to announce Fabian Sharp, Senior Manager at the Paddington Development Trust will be joining them at all of the Regional Conferences in 2014. In May 2014 Paddington’s Queen’s Park neighbourhood will become the first area in London to elect a Community (Parish) Council. This along with 15 years of experience in wider community engagement will be used to illustrate how Parish Councils can also rise to the many challenges facing communities today. The session will showcase how, against the odds, residents in Paddington are learning to build good relationships with higher tiers of local government and influence. Fabian’s commitment to community engagement, empowerment and independence has caused him to find creative ways around apathy, disillusionment and democratic deficit. The response of the community has taken him on a privileged journey with wise and wonderful men and women all committed to securing for one disadvantaged community their fair share of the cake. He tells the story of how together they are challenging convention and building a brighter future.
