Havant Borough Council’s called for natural aesthetics, sustainable play solutions with durable materials to combat antisocial behavior. In response, Proludic began a project at Bidbury Mead to rejuvenate the playground. Nestled in a green and secluded setting, Bidbury Mead was more than a playground. It was a vibrant hub for cricket, walking, and football. With many weekend visitors, the playground needed to cater to children of all ages and abilities, providing a safe and engaging space.

Addressing Maintenance and Durability Challenges

The old playground at Bidbury Mead had seen better days. It was plagued by maintenance issues and deteriorating structures. Proludic saw the need for a low-maintenance design that could withstand the test of time while being safe and sustainable. The playground’s location above a running spring posed challenges for drainage and durability.

Undeterred, Proludic rose to the occasion. They elevated the play equipment and used innovative solutions to protect against water damage. By laying a mulch surface on MOT stone above the existing ground level, they ensured the equipment stayed dry and accessible year-round. This approach addressed drainage concerns and provided a stable surface for all visitors.

The completed project at Bidbury Mead stands as a testament to the successful integration of mixed materials, thoughtful design, and innovative solutions, creating a revitalised and inclusive playground that meets the diverse needs of the community while respecting the natural beauty of the surrounding environment.

Innovative, Inclusive & Sustainable Play Solutions

The completed project at Bidbury Mead showcases the successful use of mixed materials, thoughtful design, and innovative solutions. The revitalised playground now meets the diverse needs of the community while preserving the natural beauty of the area.

For older children, Proludic placed challenging equipment on grass matting. This fostered an environment for exploration and adventure. The inclusive Kanopé range and Robinia-inspired roundabout were chosen to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Durable materials, like Robinia hardwood, ensure resilience against decay. Features such as slides and climbing equipment encourage cooperative play and physical activity.

Overcoming Installation Challenges

Despite wet ground conditions during the installation, Proludic’s planning and attention to detail ensured success. Today, as the sun sets on Bidbury Mead, the revitalized playground stands as a testament to thoughtful design and innovation in creating inclusive and sustainable play solutions.
